Smoke pours out of a $5 million Ferrari Enzo; It might need a new clutch
Videos of a Ferrari Enzo with smoke pouring from its engine bay are going viral on social media. Here are a few clips showing the exact moment the $5 million supercar went kaput.
The videos show a red Enzo leaving a parking lot. Just as it turns around a corner, smoke starts pouring out of all the vents. While the exact reason is unclear, we suspect it could be the clutch. It appears that the clutch couldn’t handle the slow, creeping motion and eventually burned up inside its housing.
The Ferrari Enzo uses a single-clutch automated manual transmission with an electro-hydraulic clutch system. The 6-speed “F1 gearbox” can be operated via the paddles on the steering wheel. The clutch on the Enzo is prone to slipping, which can cause abnormal wear. The first sign of clutch slippage is a peculiar burning odour.
