Nissan GT-R R35 production ends after 18 years

After 18 years, the R35 Nissan GT-R has reached its end of life. The first car rolled off the assembly line at Tochigi in 2007. Since then, Nissan has built around 48,000 R35 GT-Rs.

The final example just rolled out of the factory. It is a Premium edition T-Spec finished in Midnight Purple. It will be delivered to a customer in Japan.

While it may be the end of the road for the R35 generation, it isn’t the end of the GT-R nameplate by any means. Nissan has already hinted that the R36 is coming.

Nissan CEO and President Ivan Espinosa said, “To the many fans of the GT-R worldwide, I want to tell you this isn’t a goodbye to the GT-R forever, it’s our goal for the GT-R nameplate to one day make a return.”

Little is known about the next-generation Nissan GT-R, though. The Hyper Force concept from 2023 was a preview of things to come. It was a 1341 hp EV with a top speed of 200 mph. While these are impressive figures, we hope the actual R36 won’t be an electric car.
