Mercedes-AMG debuts 818 hp GT2 Edition W16 customer racing car
Mercedes-AMG has revealed the most powerful customer racing car it has ever built. It’s called the GT2 Edition W16, and it packs up to 818 hp!
The Mercedes-AMG GT2 Edition W16 is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which is mated to a 6-speed sequential gearbox. It has a Push2Pass function, which provides a boost of 98 hp and 148 lb-ft for a peak output of 818 hp and 738 lb-ft.
The GT2 Edition W16 weighs just 3,153 lbs and has an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 3.85 lb/hp. The suspension setup comprises fully adjustable 4-way motorsport shock absorbers, with adjustable anti-roll bars in the front and rear.
The livery on the GT2 Edition W16 is inspired by the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 car, hence the name ‘W16’. It has active louvres on the front fenders similar to the AMG One hypercar, an enlarged front diffuser, aerodynamically optimized exterior mirrors, DRS (Drag Reduction System) and a carbon spoiler lip on the trunk lid.
Inside, it has door sill panels hand-signed by F1 driver Kimi Antonelli, and a ‘1 of 30’ badge – That’s right, only 30 examples are being built. The car is fitted with a 5-point harness, a fire suppression system, a safety fuel tank, an emergency hatch, racing ABS and multi-adjustable traction control system.
The Mercedes-AMG GT2 Edition W16 is priced at €679,000 excluding taxes.
