McLaren in no hurry to build its first EV supercar, says CEO

Talks of a McLaren EV supercar have been going on for quite a while now. The British carmaker had itself announced plans to go fully electric by the end of the decade; however, like other brands, it too seems to have had a rethink.

In an interview, McLaren’s new CEO, Nick Collins, stated that while the carmaker is in no rush to build an EV, it will introduce it at some point. He stated, “Could I envision an EV at some point? Yes. Are we in a hurry to do one? No.”

Reports state that development of the McLaren EV has already begun, with an engineering program also assembled. However, there is still a lot left to be done. Collins also added, “internal combustion is going to play the majority role of this brand for a really long period of time.”

Currently, McLaren does provide an electric motor on its Artura, which is paired with its 3.0-litre V6. While its halo hypercar, the W1, also features a hybrid V8 powertrain producing 1,275 BHP.
