Jay Leno drives the Bugatti Mistral: World’s fastest open-top car
Jay Leno recently got a chance to experience the world’s fastest open-top production car, the Bugatti Mistral. Last year, the hypercar clocked 282 mph at a high-speed oval in Germany. Leno, though, feels it’s as easy as driving a Miata.
The Mistral is the last Bugatti to use the 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine. In its latest iteration, this legendary motor produces 1600 hp. That’s 600 hp more than when it first appeared in the Veyron.
While the same 1600 hp W16 powers the Chiron Super Sport, in the Mistral, it’s a completely different driving experience, with the sound of the turbos and wastegates reaching the cabin unhindered.
Bugatti’s next hypercar had some big shoes to fill, and so they gave it an even bonkers engine. The Tourbillon also has a 16-cylinder engine, but this time, in a ‘V’ configuration. The 8.3-liter V16 is naturally aspirated and is paired with three electric motors. The result is 1800 hp!
