Ferrari 849 Testarossa blends 1970s design with modern supercar tech

Ferrari has revealed the long-awaited SF90 successor. As expected, the new model is called the 849 Testarossa.

According to the company, the 849 Testarossa is the boldest Ferrari ever made. The styling draws inspiration from the old Testarossa but only in a subtle way. The design is actually all-new and features a flat-ish front fascia with L-shaped LED headlamps and a full-width black strip, which has now become a signature design element on cars with the Prancing Horse logo.

Along the sides are scooped-out ducts that feed air to the twin-turbo V8 engine. A black strip separates the driver’s compartment from the rear section, which has a more sculpted look similar to the Daytona SP3.

Move around to the rear of the car, and the first thing you notice is the pair of wings atop the slim LED taillights. The dual exhausts are positioned in the centre of the rear fascia.

The interior of the 849 Testarossa looks sporty and minimalistic. It draws inspiration from the new F80 hypercar.

The 849 Testarossa is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine paired with a hybrid system. It has a peak output of 1035 hp. The internal combustion engine develops 818 hp @ 7500 rpm and 621 lb-ft @ 6500 rpm, while the electric motors deliver 161 hp. The car comes with a 7.45 kWh battery, which gives it an electric range of 15.5 miles.

The 849 Testarossa can accelerate from 0-62 mph in under 2.3 seconds. 0-124 mph comes up in 6.35 seconds, and the top speed is more than 205 mph. Ferrari says the new 849 laps the Fiorano test track in 1 min 17.5 seconds.
