Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X laps the Nurburgring in under 7 minutes
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X has set a sub-7-minute lap time at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, and that too with a non-professional racecar driver at the wheel.
Drew Cattell, Vehicle Dynamics Engineer of the Corvette ZR1X, now has the fastest lap time of any non-pro racing driver at the Nurburgring. Cattell completed a lap of the 12.9-mile circuit in 6 min 49.275 seconds in a car he helped develop.
The Corvette ZR1X uses a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that makes 1064 hp and 828 lb-ft of torque. The ICE is paired with a hybrid system for a combined output of 1250 hp.
Chevrolet also brought along the standard Corvette ZR1 and Z06. The ZR1 went around the Green Hell in 6 min 50.763 seconds in the hands of vehicle dynamics engineer Brian Wallace.
Aaron Link got behind the wheel of the Z06 and managed to set a lap time of 7 min 11.826 seconds.
