Capricorn 01 Zagato: Italian design with an American heart

Germany-based Capricorn Group has revealed their first hypercar. Styled by the famous Italian design house Zagato, the Capricorn 01 promises to be an “ultra-driver-focused” hypercar.

The Capricorn 01 Zagato is based on a carbon fibre monocoque. Even the front and rear subframes are made from lightweight carbon fibre. As a result, the car weighs just 1200 kg or 2646 lbs dry.

The exterior of the Capricorn 01 appears to have been inspired by a few modern supercars. There’s a hint of Ford GT when viewed from the side, while the front reminds us of the De Tomaso P72. And, of course, being a Zagato design, it has the signature double-bubble roof. The car rides on 21-inch wheels made from either a lightweight alloy or carbon fibre.

The interior features a neo-retro design and comes with a carbon dashboard equipped with old-school toggle switches, a 3-spoke steering wheel and three analogue dials.

Nestled inside the chassis is a mid-mounted, supercharged 5.2-liter V8 sourced from Ford. It delivers 888 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a 5-speed dog-leg manual gearbox that sends power to the rear axle.

Capricorn claims that the 01 Zagato is capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in under 3 seconds and can reach a top speed of 224 mph.

Only 19 examples of the Capricorn 01 Zagato will be produced, each with a price tag of $3.15 million.
