Bugatti Bolide races up Switzerland’s Bernina Pass
Last week, car enthusiasts from all over Europe gathered at the Bernina Pass in Switzerland for the Bernina Gran Turismo hill climb. This year’s event was more special as it featured the 1600 hp Bugatti Bolide.
Bugattis have been racing up the Bernina Hill Climb route since the 1930s. Over the years, cars like the Type 35 B and Type 59 have roared up the twisty strip of tarmac. This year, Fritz Burkard brought his 1600 hp Bolide to the event. Bugatti test driver Andy Wallace and CEO Mate Rimac were also present.
The Bugatti Bolide has been designed specifically for the racetrack. This was one of those rare occasions when the car was seen on public roads.
Powering the Bolide is an 8.0-liter W16 engine that generates 1825 hp and 1475 lb-ft of torque. More than enough to propel the car up the Bernina Pass, located at an altitude of 2235 m.
